Two police officers were injured as they struggled to detain a violent suspect.
They had been called to a disturbance in Dale Lane, Blidworth, shortly before 2am this morning.
Witnesses reported a man making threats in the street and acting aggressively towards passers-by.
As the man was confronted by officers he attempted to flee, causing them to chase him down on foot.
In the struggle that followed one officer sustained a scratch to his neck and the other received an injury to his hand.
A 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and public order offence. He remains in police custody.
Inspector Susan Wain, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This would have been a frightening incident for people to witness and our officers were very quickly on the scene.
“In the moments that followed they showed considerable bravery and professionalism as they fought to keep members of the public safe.
“Our officers are doing valuable work in very challenging circumstances and simply do not deserve to be assaulted as they carry our their duties. Nottinghamshire Police will never tolerate this kind of behaviour and will always push for the strongest possible sanctions when officers are attacked.”
