Two police officers treated in hospital after struggle with suspect

Police have praised a member of the public who helped officers detain a man in the early hours of this morning (Sunday 30 August ).

Officers were called to an address in Howard Road, Mansfield, at around 2.30 am after reports of a disturbance.

As they attempted to arrest a man at the scene a struggle ensued during which three officers sustained injuries, including a serious bite wound to an arm.

During the arrest a male member of the public came to the officers’ aid and helped them to pin the suspect to the ground.

Two of the officers were treated at King’s Mill Hospital following the incident.

A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault, criminal damage and resisting arrest. He remains in police custody.

Detective Constable Andrea Brown, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was a difficult situation for our officers and also a timely reminder of some of the dangers they can face in the course of their duties.

“I would like to thank the member of the public who helped our officers to bring this suspect under control and draw this situation to a close.

“Assaults on our officers are completely unacceptable and we will always take action against those who commit such offences.”
