It was a proud day for Holy Spirit Celtic Football Club on the last Sunday in June as not one, but two of their U15 girls’ teams represented their club in the Notts Girls and Ladies U15s Plate Final.
Getting to a final for any football club is an achievement but having two teams from the same club is unprecedented and our club could not be any prouder.
The match was a wonderful advert for women’s and girl’s football, with both teams competing to be champions, but after a very competitive and physical match there could only be one winner… Holy Spirit Celtic Green’s came through to win 2-0 against the Reds. Huge congratulations, what an incredible match!
Holy Spirit Celtic Red’s should also be incredibly proud for getting to the final.
-The U15s’ journey began when one of the coach’s daughters wanted to play, but there were no other girls teams in the areas.
So Nick Waite approached Holy Spirit Celtic and set up the team, starting with 14 girls, and had 30 at their peak.
This is when the decision was made to create two teams, the Greens and the Reds. Both teams have now finished their fifth season in the Notts Girls and Ladies League and as you can see they are going from strength to strength!
