UK Covid update 8 July

There were 1,237,992 tests reported on 7 July 2021. This shows an increase of 4.5% compared to the previous 7 days.

Between 1 July 2021 and 7 July 2021, there have been 7,301,573 tests.

Cases

A confirmed case is someone who has tested positive for coronavirus.

32,551 new people had a confirmed positive test result reported on 8 July 2021.

Between 2 July 2021 and 8 July 2021, 197,464 people had a confirmed positive test result. This shows an increase of 34.9% compared to the previous 7 days.

Vaccinations

Vaccines are currently given in 2 doses, at least 21 days apart.

45,601,445 people had been given a first dose by the end of 7 July 2021.

34,198,779 people had been given a second dose by the end of 7 July 2021.

Healthcare

Some people with coronavirus have to go into hospital.

456 people with coronavirus went into hospital on 4 July 2021.

Between 28 June 2021 and 4 July 2021, 2,661 went into hospital with coronavirus. This shows an increase of 51.5% compared to the previous 7 days.

There were 2,636 patients in hospital with coronavirus on 7 July 2021.

Some people in the hospital need to use a special device called a mechanical ventilator to help them breathe.

There were 417 coronavirus patients in hospital beds with a mechanical ventilator on 7 July 2021.

Deaths

There were 35 deaths within 28 days of a positive test for coronavirus reported on 8 July 2021.

Between 2 July 2021 and 8 July 2021, there have been 174 deaths within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test. This shows an increase of 52.6% compared to the previous 7 days.
