UK Covid Update 9 March
From the week of 21 February 2022, the UK Health Security Agency stopped publishing dashboard updates at weekends.
The dashboard is updated daily from Monday to Friday. Daily cases and deaths by report date published on Mondays include figures from the preceding weekend. These will not be separated out to show daily figures for Saturday and Sunday. Cases by specimen date and deaths by date of death are separated out for each day.
Tests
Between 2 March 2022 and 8 March 2022, there have been 4,449,039 tests. This shows an increase of 0.4% compared to the previous 7 days.
Cases
A confirmed case is someone who has tested positive for coronavirus.
Between 3 March 2022 and 9 March 2022, 346,059 people had a confirmed positive test result. This shows an increase of 46.4% compared to the previous 7 days.
Vaccinations
Vaccines are currently given in 3 doses.
52,682,128 people had been given a first dose by the end of 8 March 2022.
49,135,007 people had been given a second dose by the end of 8 March 2022.
38,416,568 people had been given a booster or third dose by the end of 8 March 2022.
Healthcare
Some people with coronavirus have to go into hospital.
Between 27 February 2022 and 5 March 2022, 8,950 went into hospital with coronavirus. This shows an increase of 12.2% compared to the previous 7 days.
There were 11,639 patients in hospital with coronavirus on 8 March 2022.
Some people in the hospital need to use a special device called a mechanical ventilator to help them breathe.
There were 275 coronavirus patients in hospital beds with a mechanical ventilator on 8 March 2022.
Deaths
Between 3 March 2022 and 9 March 2022, there have been 778 deaths within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test. This shows an increase of 19.5% compared to the previous 7 days.
