Universities in Nottingham encouraged to ‘return home if they can’

Nottingham Trent University and the University of Nottingham have updated their advice for students during the coronavirus outbreak.

University of Nottingham

The health and safety of our University community in the UK, China, Malaysia and elsewhere is our priority.

During the current situation with coronavirus COVID-19, please remain calm and follow the advice and precautions published on this page for staff and students.

The University is following the latest advice for the UK from the Department for Health and Social Care, Public Health England and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office – as well as from the Chinese health authorities for our Ningbo campus.

The University will deliver all teaching online from Monday 23 March, there will be no face-to-face lectures, seminars or tutorials from this time.

Helplines are now open to report illness or self-isolation by phone or email and get advice on employment or academic concerns linked to coronavirus.

Students are recommended to return home if you can, staff are encouraged to work from home where at all possible.

The UK government has announced that schools will close from Friday 20 March. We have updated our staff FAQs to reflect this.
If students wish to stay either in halls on in off-campus accommodation, please tell us via this online form so that we can provide support for you.

The University will remain open while we deliver teaching online and we will ensure our learning facilities and services remain available.

Nottingham Trent University

The University will remain open, but all face to face teaching has been paused. By the end of this week all online learning provision will have been agreed ready to recommence studies from Monday 23 March.

During this time, you should decide where you wish to be when our online learning provision commences on Monday 23rd March and if necessary make appropriate travel arrangements.

You can of course continue to stay in your accommodation in Nottingham. All communal areas such as libraries, refectories and gyms are open. We are continuing to thoroughly clean these areas and operate them as usual.

If you are taking part in an international exchange and placement you are welcome to travel back to Nottingham or your country of origin over the next week; please check the student Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) for more information.

We do not envisage face to face teaching before the start of next term at the earliest and it may well be that our on-line approach needs to continue into the summer.

Part of these precautionary measures includes cancelling or postponing large gatherings of people. For instance, we have agreed with the University of Nottingham that the varsity sports series will not take place this year.

In light of advice from the government, some of our staff who are not involved directly in student facing or support activity will be encouraged if possible, to work from home.
