University students are invited to attend a dedicated beat surgery where they can meet their local officers and seek advice.
Unlike typical police beat surgeries, these sessions – called ‘Campus Conversations’ – will focus solely on student concerns.
Hosted in collaboration with the University of Nottingham, they are designed to ensure students feel supported, know who to turn to, as well as encourage positive behaviour within the wider community.
Attendees will be able to speak directly with their university police community support officer (PCSO) about any issues that may concern them and be given crime prevention advice.
A series of surgeries are taking place at the University of Nottingham campus across two weeks:
- Monday 26 January and Monday 2 February, 10-11am: Hallward Library, NG7 2RD
- Monday 2 February, 1-2pm: George Green Library, NG7 2RD
- Tuesday 27 January and Tuesday 3 February, 1-2pm, Business Library, NG8 1BB
- Wednesday 28 January, 1-2pm, David Ross Sports Village, NG7 2RD
- Wednesday 4 February, 1-2pm, Avo Café, NG7 1RR
- Thursday 29 January and Thursday 5 February, 1-2pm, Harpers Bar at Sutton Bonington, LE12 5NT
The role of the university policing team is to increase safety, reduce crime, build trust between students, universities, and the police, especially in student-heavy areas like Lenton.
PCSO Paula Hipkiss, of the University of Nottingham’s policing team, said:
“As the force’s dedicated university officers, we can often be found patrolling the campus and residential areas, at stalls during events and listening to concerns.
“We want to take that a step further, though, and give priority time for our student community so they can make their views heard.
“So, whether you want crime prevention tips, have concerns about your local area, or learn more about our role on campus – we will be there to ask, support and protect.”
Brydie Adams, University of Nottingham’s Head of Engagement, said:
“We want every student to feel heard and supported. This initiative offers a confidential space for advice and incident reporting, as well as informal questions to get to know the team better.
“By bringing these drop-ins onto our campuses, we’re working to build trust and ensure our students know that help is easily accessible.”
