Police investigating the report of a number of suspicious items being found in a vehicle in Sneinton have arrested a 24-year old man in connection with the discovery.
Nottinghamshire Police were called at around 2.45pm today (Tuesday 18 June 2019) to a report of the discovery on an industrial estate in Daleside Road, Sneinton.
Officers worked alongside The Army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit and crews from Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service and East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) to understand the circumstances surrounding the discovery.
Following a thorough assessment, it was established that there was no threat to the public and, at around 8pm, the police cordon was removed.
Detective Inspector Danny Johnstone from Nottinghamshire Police, who is leading the investigation, said: “We appreciate there will be some concern in relation to the presence of emergency services in this area, which is why I would like to reiterate that there remains no threat to the public in relation to this report.
“The police investigation remains at a very early stage and our enquiries will now focus on gaining a thorough understanding of the circumstances surrounding this report and establishing whether any offences have been committed.
“I would also like to thank those local businesses who were affected by this incident for the support they have shown to emergency crews, which is so important in enabling those crews to focus on understanding the circumstances surrounding reports like these.”
