UK cases figures do not include data from Scotland

Figures for new positive PCR cases in Scotland are not available at the weekend. Figures will be retrospectively added to the totals for 22 and 23 January when published by Public Health Scotland on Monday 24 January.

 

There were 1,370,093 tests reported on 20 January 2022. This shows a decrease of -13.3%compared to the previous 7 days.

Between 14 January 2022 and 20 January 2022, there have been 9,195,787 tests.

Cases

A confirmed case is someone who has tested positive for coronavirus.

76,807 new people had a confirmed positive test result reported on 22 January 2022.

Between 16 January 2022 and 22 January 2022, 641,929 people had a confirmed positive test result. This shows a decrease of -22.2% compared to the previous 7 days.

Vaccinations

Vaccines are currently given in 3 doses.

52,203,675 people had been given a first dose by the end of 21 January 2022.

48,115,948 people had been given a second dose by the end of 21 January 2022.

36,821,284 people had been given a booster or third dose by the end of 21 January 2022.

Healthcare

Some people with coronavirus have to go into hospital.

1,974 people with coronavirus went into hospital on 17 January 2022.

Between 11 January 2022 and 17 January 2022, 14,213 went into hospital with coronavirus. This shows a decrease of -9.9% compared to the previous 7 days.

There were 17,976 patients in hospital with coronavirus on 20 January 2022.

Some people in the hospital need to use a special device called a mechanical ventilator to help them breathe.

There were 664 coronavirus patients in hospital beds with a mechanical ventilator on 20 January 2022.

Deaths

There were 297 deaths within 28 days of a positive test for coronavirus reported on 22 January 2022.

Between 16 January 2022 and 22 January 2022, there have been 1,888 deaths within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test. This shows an increase of 2.4% compared to the previous 7 days.
