Updates: A1 Lincolnshire closed both ways – very serious multi-vehicle collision

The A1 in Lincolnshire is closed in both directions between the A607 (Harlaxton) and A151 (Colsterworth) following a serious multiple vehicle collision.

8:33 pm National Highways – The northbound carriageway has reopened. There are no significant delays in the area.


Road closed and slow traffic due to serious multi-vehicle crash on A1 Great North Road both ways from A607 (Harlaxton / Melton Mowbray Turn Off) to A151 (Colsterworth Services Junction).

Lincolnshire Police are leading the response at this stage with all emergency services working at the scene.

National Highways Traffic Officers and contractors are en route to assist with strategic closures on the approach.

 

Diversion Routes:

Traffic is being diverted via local routes and the closure points at this stage in both directions.

Please see below info in relation to the strategic closures that are available if travelling from further afield.

Southbound:

Road users are advised to follow the hollow diamond diversion symbol:

  • Leave the A1 southbound at the A607 junction at Harlaxton and turn right onto the A607 heading west.
  • Follow the A607 west through Harlaxton, Croxton Kerrial and Waltham on the Wolds to Melton Mowbray.
  • At the A607/A606 junction turn right onto the A606 heading east.
  • Follow the A606 through Langham, Oakham, Whitwell and Empingham back to the A1 at Stamford.
  • At the A606/A1 junction take the southbound entry slip road to rejoin the A1 southbound to continue your journey.

Northbound:

Road users are advised to follow the solid circle diversion symbol:

  • Exit the A1 at A606 Stamford Northbound exit slip road.
  • At the top of the slip road, turn left (west) onto the A606.
  • Continue westbound along the A606 through villages of Empingham and Whitwell until the A606/A6003/B640 Oakham Bypass roundabout.
  • At the roundabout, turn right (north west) onto the A606  Burley Park Way on Oakham Bypass and straight over the A606/B668 roundabout, the Ashwell roundabout and the Railway Bridge roundabout, then continue along north to the Barleythorpe roundabout.
  • At the Barleythorpe roundabout, turn right (north west) and continue along the A606  through Langham and Burton Lazars to Melton Mowbray.
  • In Melton Mowbray, head north along Burton Street, then left onto Leicester junction.
  • At the junction turn right onto Norman Way and continue to the A607/B676 Thorpe Lane junction.
  • Turn left onto A607 Thorpe Lane head out of Melton Mowbray.
  • Continue along the A607 through the villages of Thorpe Arnold, Waltham on the Wolds, Croxton Kerrial and Harlaxton to the A1/A607 northbound slip road roundabout (Farmers Arms).
  • Turn right at the roundabout onto the A1 northbound entry slip and re-join the A1.
