The A46 in Leicestershire is closed southbound between the A50 (Groby) and the M1 J21A following a serious collision which resulted in a vehicle fire. The incident occurred shortly before 04:45am this morning.
Leicestershire Police are in attendance, leading the response to the incident and are in the process of carrying out collision investigations.
National Highways Traffic officers are also in attendance assisting with traffic management.
The road is expected to remain closed for several hours.
Diversion Routes
Road users travelling southbound are advised to follow the Hollow Diamond symbol on road signs;
- From the A46/A50 junction, take the fourth exit onto the A50 north Markfield Road.
- Continue along the A50 passing through Lena Drive junction, Bradgate Hill and Field Head roundabout to the A50/M1 J22 interchange.
- At the interchange, take the first exit and head southbound on the M1 to J21A, where the M1 and A46 converge.

Road closed due to serious crash, two vehicles involved on A46 both ways from M1 J21A (Leicester North / Kirby Muxloe) to the A50 (Groby). The M1 Northbound J21A exit slip road is closed.

Diversion Routes
Northbound:
- At M1 J21A, continue on the M1 northbound to J22
- Exit onto the A50 southbound and follow for approx. 4.5 miles.
- Re-join the A46 at the Groby Junction
Southbound:
- Leave the A46 at the Groby Junction.
- Join the A50 northbound and follow it for approximately 4.5 miles.
- Continue on to the M1 southbound at J22.
