Nottinghamshire Police have launched an urgent appeal to help trace a boy who boarded a bus in the Stapleford area in his pyjamas, slippers and dressing gown in a distressed state late yesterday evening (Saturday 10 August) and has not been seen since.
Update: Boy found safe and well
Officers were called just before 10.15pm to a report that a boy wearing nightwear had boarded and then, soon after, alighted a bus that was heading for the Derby area.
The boy – who is believed to be around 11 or 12 years of age – boarded the bus at the Memorial Gardens in Derby Road, Stapleford. He mentioned to the driver that he had been staying with friends in the area but now intended to travel back to the Chaddesden area of Derby.
He alighted the bus minutes later and was last seen near to The Old Rock public house, walking towards Nottingham.
Nottinghamshire Police have maintained a significant uniformed presence in the Stapleford area since the time the report was made, where officers are continuing their work and house-to-house enquiries as part of what is currently being treated as a missing person investigation.
Inspector Paul Hennessy, who is leading Nottinghamshire Police’s response to the report, said: “This is a particularly unusual case which gives us real cause for concern for the boy’s safety, due to the time of night, the unusual circumstances, his distressed state and the fact he is not believed to have access to suitable clothing, money or a mobile phone to contact his friends and family.
“I need to be absolutely clear that the boy is not in any trouble whatsoever and that our priority is to establish the circumstances surrounding this report, to identify and locate the boy and to ensure that he is safe and well.
“I would urge anyone with any relevant information – no matter how insignificant it may seem – to contact us as soon as possible, as any information could help us to identify the boy, establish his whereabouts and ultimately help to ensure that he is safe.”
The boy is described as white, with dark hair and last seen wearing a dark grey dressing gown with speckles, a dark grey or black Puma hoody underneath his dressing gown, black pyjama bottoms, black slippers and white socks.
The boy is not believed to have access to money and it is thought that the mobile phone he was carrying had ran out of battery.
Anyone with any information that could help to identify the boy or to establish his whereabouts is asked to call Nottinghamshire Police immediately on 101, quoting incident number 926 of 10 August.
