Two suspects were arrested after a van was found packed full of cannabis growing equipment.
Officers were called to Bush Close, Top Valley, following reports of people acting suspiciously outside an address.
They were reportedly seen loading bin bags from the van into the unoccupied property around 9:20 p.m. on Monday (21 October).
Suspecting criminal activity could be taking place, officers conducted an area search and quickly located a van matching the description.
Police detected a strong smell of cannabis as they approached the vehicle to speak to its occupants when it came to a stop in Cowlairs, Top Valley.
Off-cuts of cannabis were in the front cab of the van, while a dismantled grow, growing equipment, and bags of plant pots and soil were found in the back.
Around £1,300 in cash and a mobile phone were also recovered, with the van’s driver and passenger both detained while further inquiries took place.
After travelling back to Bush Close, police found a large amount of cannabis growing equipment inside a garage, with the adjoining house otherwise completely empty.
All the equipment – including bulbs, electrics, piping, and fertiliser – was removed by the officers in attendance.
Two men, aged 30 and 37, were subsequently arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class B drugs.
Sergeant Ashley Taylor, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“Thanks to this tip-off, we were able to intercept a van full of cannabis growing equipment and identify the site of a potential future grow.
“While no actual plants were seized on this occasion, the likelihood is this unoccupied property would’ve been used as a cannabis farm at some point.
“This will now no longer take place, which is certainly a positive thing – especially for neighbouring residents, who I’m sure wouldn’t have wanted a grow operating anywhere near where they live.
“As well as bringing nothing but trouble to areas, these household grows also provide a genuine fire hazard to the properties surrounding them.
“Bearing all of this in mind, we’re pleased to have been able to make this discovery, while also arresting two suspects in the process.
“We’d always urge anyone who suspects drug activity could be going on in their community to report it to the police by calling us on 101.”
