Vat and Fiddle pub wins Cider Pub of the Year award

The Vat and Fiddle, Castle Rock’s brewery tap, is Nottingham CAMRA’s cider pub of the year.

In a closely fought competition against 14 other nominated establishments, the Vat came top for ‘it’s the breadth of choice, quality, and presentation’.

Speaking as the coveted award was presented to manager, Louise Carlin, Nottingham CAMRA’s cider and perry officer, Ray Blockley, paid tribute to her and her staff for their interest in real cider.

Ray said:

“So often a pub will have loads of different brands on sale, but only a limited range of styles. Louise actually goes out of her way to find and source those that are different.

“And these come from across the range of fruit and full juice varieties from the local area and from the best presses that other regions have to offer,”

Louise Carlin thanked CAMRA for the award.   She said: “We’re really pleased to have received this and would like to thank the branch for this award.

“A lot of effort has gone into sourcing and expanding our cider range over the last 12 months with a focus on supporting local producers as is our aim across all areas of our business here at the Vat.”

In their deliberations, the CAMRA five-member judging panel visits pubs unannounced
