A man was quickly arrested following a foot chase after police spotted him loitering near vehicles.
Police were patrolling Ashlockton Drive, Basford, around 8pm on Monday (23 June).
A man was spotted on the cul-de-sac wearing distinctive gloves, and when officers arrived, he took off on foot through an alleyway.
The suspect attempted to lose the police by scaling fences and running across back gardens. An officer was soon on his tail though, and the man was detained after failing to hide in a front garden on Reydon Drive.
During the chase, another officer stayed at Ashlockton Drive and located a Ford Fiesta – reported stolen from Faraday Road, Radford, just the week before – abandoned. The car has since been recovered.
A subsequent search of the suspect found a screwdriver, balaclava, numerous vehicle keys and a small quantity of cannabis in his possession.
The 41-year-old was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and criminal damage to property valued under £5,000.
He was also arrested on suspicion of possession of the Class B drug cannabis.
He remains on bail as inquiries continue.
PC Daniel Sheasby of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“This was a great piece of reactive police work, with these efforts ultimately resulting in both an arrest and a stolen car being recovered.
“We understand how distressing it can be for people to have their vehicles stolen and we will continue to thoroughly investigate all types of vehicle crime.”
