UPDATED: Victoria Centre evacuated and flats on lockdown – suspected gas leak

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service are at the scene.

Notts Fire: ‘Our crews and gas workers are continuing their work to make the area safe.

We can’t give an indication at this time of when the cordon will be lifted but it is hoped that staff from businesses will be allowed back into the centre shortly.’

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said:

‘We have four appliances in attendance at Victoria Centre in Nottingham because of a suspected gas leak. People are being evacuated from the building and we ask people to avoid the area.

‘Area Manager Mick Sharman said: “We are likely to be on scene for a number of hours as we work to identify the leak and make the area safe. “We are aware that people in the vicinity are asking why they cannot leave their flats.

‘The Incident Commander has requested that people remain in their flats until instructed otherwise. “We understand the frustration but it is for your safety and to allow our crews to bring this incident to a close as swiftly as we can.”

Nottingham City Transport services are affected:

Orange line, Navy Line, Green Line, Service 49 and service 50 are on diversion. Please use stops along Angel Row.

Diversions are in place on the Turquoise Line and Pink Line. Please use the stop by the Cathedral for outbound Journey’s

Diversion on Lilac, Red and Blue Lines. Please use the stop by Pryzm for outbound Journeys.

Diversion on the Brown, Yellow, Lime, Sky Blue and Purple Lines. Please use stops on Burton Street.

Trent Barton: “Due to the gas leak in Nottingham thethrees and the 141 services are currently picking up and dropping off at Mansfield Road stop in Nottingham they will not be serving Victoria Bus Station, they are then diverting via Fulfort Street and left onto Huntington Street.”

Tram services are unaffected:
