Wanted man admits 27 shoplifting offences and 15 order breaches

A wanted man behind a retail crime wave is now in custody after officers caught up with him.
Corey Fawsitt found himself before the courts this week, where he admitted to 43 separate charges.

All of them related to his behaviour inside Nottingham’s shops, which were the repeated targets of his theft.

Fawsitt was responsible for a mammoth 27 shop thefts from 12 different stores – mostly since last December.

His offending stretched back further than that, however, with the 23-year-old linked to one theft last February too.

The stores impacted were scattered across different parts of Nottingham, some of which Fawsitt was already banned from.

Bearing that in mind, his actions meant he had also breached existing Criminal Behaviour Orders (CBOs) on 15 separate occasions.

Each of Fawsitt’s shop thefts saw him steal low-value items – such as meat, chocolates and laundry products – from the shelves.

Police have been trying to find Fawsitt, of no fixed address, for some time now but have had difficulties doing so because of his living situation.

This prompted officers to release two separate wanted appeals – including a Crimestoppers appeal offering a £1,000 reward – in recent weeks.

Within a couple of days of that going out, Fawsitt was spotted stealing again, this time from a shop in Lenton on the morning of Saturday (14 February).

Neighbourhood officers on patrol saw him nearby shortly afterwards and, following a short foot chase, arrested him in the Abbey Bridge area.

Fawsitt appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Monday (16 February), where he admitted to 27 shop thefts, 15 CBO breaches and a further public order offence.

He has been remanded in custody until 9 March, when he will be sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court.

Acting Sergeant Abi Goddard, of the Bestwood neighbourhood policing team, said:
“Corey Fawsitt is a prolific shoplifter who has caused all sorts of issues, not just in our neighbourhoods but across other parts of the city too.

“Despite being sentenced for his theft several times in the past, he has failed to heed any of these warnings and has continued to be involved in criminality.

“His latest spell of offending saw him commit 27 separate shop thefts. Despite us being on the lookout for him, his living situation made him very difficult to locate.

“Those challenges prompted two separate wanted appeals this month, which we’re pleased to say have since been followed up by Fawsitt being found and detained.

“Some fantastic teamwork helped secure his capture and the guilty pleas that followed, with the neighbourhood policing teams in Bestwood, Sherwood and Radford Road all playing a role.

“A significant amount of time has been spent dealing with Fawsitt, so we’re delighted to know he’s now in custody and awaiting sentencing.”
