The fire service spent two hours fighting the blaze.
Nottingamshire Fire and Rescue Service said:
‘Crews from Edwinstowe and Warsop attended an incident on Monday morning in Warsop Windmill Woods.
‘The area had discarded cans and food wrappers, a disposable BBQ and a makeshift camp. A camp fire being lit on the dry grass caused a fire of approximately 150-200m2, meaning crews were at this incident for around two hours.
‘Any types of fires including BBQ’s should not be lit in forestry area’s unless it is a designated area. Not only is it causing harm to the environment, but it could also prevent a fire from happening.’
