Warning after robber targets victims near cash machines in Nottingham

Police officers have arrested a man in connection with a series of street robbery attempts.

Police were called following reports that a man had approached a woman and tried to rob her.

The 25-year-old woman alleged that a man had threatened her and demanded money.

It is reported that after being given a small amount of money, the man was not happy and demanded that she withdraw money from a cash machine on Alfreton Road, Radford.

She refused to go to the cash machine and walked away from the man.

A 35-year-old man was stopped by plain clothed officers from the Radford Road Operation Reacher team within minutes of responding to the incident on Monday (14 March 2022).

Officers were also aware of intelligence around two alleged robberies, as well as a further attempted robbery, all of which had reportedly taken place in the area over the last two weeks.

As a result, they arrested the man on suspicion of robbery and attempted robbery in connection with the four incidents.

He remains in police custody.

Detective Sergeant Lee Cattell, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “We have arrested a man in connection with a series of robbery attempts that are understood to have taken place within the vicinity of the same cash machine on Alfreton Road.

“I’d like to commend the excellent work of the Operation Reacher officers in this case, who quickly located a suspect and have also began questioning him in relation to other alleged offences of a similar nature.

“Robbery is a very serious offence that can have a hugely detrimental effect on people’s lives, both from a physical and an emotional standpoint.

“We will continue to act swiftly and decisively to all reports of robbery and do everything in our powers to investigate incidents, protect the public and ensure that offenders are brought to justice.

“If anyone has any information that could assist us with our enquiries in this case, we’d ask that you contact police immediately on 101, quoting incident 110 of 14 March 2022.”
