Police advise residents to be conscience after a man was spotted tampering with car doors.
Police said:
‘An arrest has been made in the early hours of yesterday morning (6 July) following reports of a suspicious male trying multiple car door handles in the Roman Quarter estate, Bingham.
‘Officers responded to a report and detained the man who was still in the area.
‘Local residents are advised to be conscientious around vehicle security as it is possible this man may not have been working alone, although this cannot be confirmed.
‘Please do not leave valuables in vehicles and ensure they are locked and secure.
‘Keep car keys away from entrances to premises. Utilise Faraday bags (or similar) for keyless entry vehicles when storing if you have them. Equally, keeping vehicle keys inside a metal container can be effective in disrupting the transmittable signals produced by these types of keys that criminals can exploit.
‘Please ensure any CCTV cameras/ doorbell cameras you may have are in working order.
‘Bingham has not seen a spate of vehicle crime for some time, but previous affected areas have been the Mallow Way estate and Bird Estate (Swallow Drive area), so residents are asked to be vigilant and report suspicious activity via 101 or 999 in an emergency/ crime in progress.’
