Wasps Come Calling For TJ

Nottingham Rugby hooker and fans’ favourite Antonio ‘TJ’ Harris has earned a big move to Premiership side Wasps, for the 2017/18 season.

The 21 year-old forward has signed a deal with his hometown club, after impressing during his two-year spell with the Green & Whites, and joins a long list of Nottingham players who have made the step-up to play in England’s top flight in recent seasons.

Harris joined Nottingham from Bedford Blues back in the summer of 2015, going on to feature regularly in the Green and Whites’ front row, making 16 appearances in league and cup during the 2015/16 campaign, and scoring 7 tries in his 18 games so far this season.

Although disappointed to see Harris leave at the end of the season, head coach Ian Costello was delighted to see him make a move to the current Premiership table toppers, saying:

“It’s fantastic for TJ to progress from the Championship to the Premiership, and it’s on the back of awful lot of hard work. He’s played really, really well over the past couple of seasons, so it’s really exciting for him and it’s very exciting for the club as well.

“We’ll draw a lot of confidence from this as a squad. It’s great for the players to see that if you work hard and perform well, those pathways are open to you. We’ll work hard to try and replace TJ and it also opens up an opportunity for someone else in the squad.”

Harris has already inscribed his name in club history, going down as the first ever replacement to score a hat-trick, after bagging three tries in the space of just ten minutes in the final stages of Nottingham’s recent Boxing Day home fixture with Yorkshire Carnegie.

Everyone at the club would like to wish TJ all the best in his future endeavours, and supporters are reminded that they can see what is likely to be his final home appearance in Green & White, against Bedford Blues on Sunday 5th March (3pm kick-off).
