Recycling company Wastecycle has confirmed that the Fire Brigade was called out by one of its drivers to extinguish a waste collection load that had caught fire shortly after being picked up from the National Water Sports Centre at Holme Pierrepont.
“The driver of the vehicle has followed our safety procedures,” said Paul Clements, Commercial Director at Wastecycle. “As soon as the vehicle’s safety systems alerted him to the fire, he found a safe area of land and ejected the load to prevent the vehicle igniting and contacted the Fire Brigade, who are now on-site.”
Despite reports of the bin containing a recently disposed of barbeque, at this moment in time, the cause of the fire is not known. A full investigation into the cause of the fire will be undertaken.
