Many local events are cancelled and attractions closed or postponed – see below

Note that Stalls Market is not cancelled – but will take place in Rushcliffe Arena.

Saturday: Persistent Rain and Increasing Winds

Saturday will start off with overcast skies and steady rainfall, with an 80% chance of precipitation from the early hours and throughout the day. Temperatures will hover around 7°C to 8°C, but a biting wind will make it feel considerably colder. Wind gusts are predicted to reach between 36 and 56 mph, primarily coming from the northwest as the day progresses. The rain intensity will rise towards the late afternoon and evening, reaching a 95% likelihood of showers by 19:00, continuing well into the night.

Winds will strengthen as the day goes on, particularly along coastal and exposed regions. Gusts will be “Gale” or “Very Gusty” at times, and the Met Office has issued warnings for potential disruption to travel and power supplies due to falling branches and localised flooding.

Sunday: Rain Continues, but Conditions Improve Slightly

Sunday will see similar conditions to Saturday, with continued rain throughout the early hours and a 95% chance of precipitation up until 06:00. The remainder of the morning will bring high chances of rain, although conditions will gradually improve by the afternoon. By 15:00, the likelihood of rain drops to 50%, and it will be mostly cloudy for the rest of the day.

Temperatures on Sunday will remain stable at around 7°C, climbing to 8°C briefly in the early afternoon, but wind gusts will still be strong. The winds, primarily from the north and later shifting to north-northeast, will gust between 35 and 54 mph, with moderate to gusty conditions continuing throughout the day.

Weather Warnings and Advice

•  Storm Darragh warning updated for 60 mph winds across the county

Storm Darragh is expected to bring significant rainfall and high winds, which could lead to disruption across parts of the UK. The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for wind and rain, advising the public to be cautious, particularly if travelling or in coastal areas. Strong winds combined with already saturated ground could lead to challenging conditions, including fallen branches, surface water on roads, and disruption to outdoor events.

Residents in affected areas are advised to secure loose outdoor items, avoid unnecessary travel, and keep up to date with local forecasts and alerts. Storm Darragh is predicted to ease by late Sunday, but conditions will remain unsettled as the storm passes.
