The aim is to encourage shop visitors to browse their extensive range of wines and spirits at their leisure and to more easily ‘Click and Collect’ orders whilst in town.

Weavers has been a familiar sight in Nottingham since 1844, when the now elegant Georgian townhouse shop was once a lively bar.

At around the same time that Charles Dickens penned ‘A Christmas Carol,’ The Trease family turned Weavers into successful wine and spirit merchants and the business continues to be run by descendants of the same family today.

The vintage brass bell which rings as you enter the front door to No 1 Castle Gate is a nostalgic reminder of how we used to shop. Yet Weavers is a thoroughly modern retailer which has continued to expand this year, with the launch of a new custom-built warehouse and e-commerce platform in addition to the shop refurbishment.

Speaking about the shop, Mary Trease explains that in a world of internet-driven shopping habits, there is still pleasure and value in shopping in a physical store.

Mary said:

“As busy people with busy lives, we all love the convenience of shopping online. But when it comes to discovering new and exciting products or being inspired by new ideas, there really is no substitute for visiting a physical shop.

“When customers come into our shop, they can browse our extensive range and have a chat with any of our team.

“Everyone in the shop is enthusiastic and knowledgeable about wines and spirits and we have wines on tasting for anyone interested in perhaps trying something new.

“Over the years, our advice has become increasingly trusted so if a customer is looking for a gift or something to be enjoyed on special occasions, customers can be confident with their purchase.

Our new Autumn / Winter catalogue ( below ) has been a great success and we hope that after browsing just a flavour of our extensive range, people will want to venture into town to see us.”

Philip Trease, co-owner of the family business is a passionate advocate for quality wine at great prices.

He said: “For five generations, we’ve been respected for our experience and expertise in sourcing quality wines, direct from growers.

“Our customers know they can either give us a call or drop into the shop for advice and we’ll be delighted to make recommendations if needed.”

“We don’t typically stock widely available wines and spirits. We have something to suit all tastes and budgets and we’re always selective about the products we stock.

“We have customers who have shopped with us for years and bars and restaurants seek our advice for their Wine Lists and food and wine pairing. We also welcome people who know absolutely nothing about wine but who want to learn more.”

Weavers has also developed their own range of spirits too.

The award-winning Castle Gate Collection was developed by Mary Trease and features premium botanicals including locally foraged acorns which contribute to the drinks’ unique nutty flavour. The range includes a Classic gin, a Strawberry and Lavender pink gin, an ‘Old Tom’ style Mead gin featuring Weavers’ own Robin Hood Mead and a vodka.”

Weavers deliver daily to NG2 and NG12 and other Nottingham postcodes throughout the week. A national delivery service is also available for deliveries further afield.

All deliveries are FREE for orders over £145.00 and Wine Club members.

Until Christmas Eve, anyone spending over £50.00 either in-store or online will receive up to £5.00 towards the cost of their City Centre Parking or public transport charges.
