A group of West Bridgford Colts Alumni slept out to raise funds for the Friary Drop-In Centre in West Bridgford.
The group of 15 University Students made it even more challenging this year by bedding down at a location near the Drop-In. This meant a concrete floor rather than the grassed football pitch of last year.
Craig Jones, a Colts community volunteer was again one of the driving forces behind the fundraising effort. He was delighted with the endeavour of the participants who included his son Ben.
Craig said:
“West Bridgford Colts is one of the largest grassroots football organisations in the country and it is fitting that we should be making contributions beyond football into our community.
“We are delighted to be supporting the essential work of The Friary for a second year and couldn’t be more proud of the 15 ‘Colts graduates’ who slept out in the cold and the drizzle on 5 January and who, with their family and friends, raised an even greater sum than last year.’
Ben Talbot of the Friary said:
“At a time when traditional sources of funding for charities are being squeezed, fundraising by groups like this is becoming more and more important.
“I can’t thank all of the participants enough. They have come back for a second year and braved the elements again.
“No one needed any persuading and on behalf of the Friary I would like to thank all of those who took part and anyone who donated towards the fantastic sum of £1,871‘
