West Bridgford girl, 13, campaigns for new pedestrian crossing near Compton Acres shops

Jessica attended the Nottinghamshire County Council meeting to watch the petition presented.

At the Full Council meeting of Nottinghamshire County Council on 25 November, Cllr Gordon Wheeler submitted a petition calling for a pedestrian crossing near to the entrance to the Compton Acres Shopping precinct.

The petition was the idea of 13-year-old Jessica Madeley who gathered dozens of signatures from within the community.

She worked on the petition when her school was closed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cllr Wheeler, County Councillor for West Bridgford West said:

‘It’s a  fantastic achievement by Jessica who was at County Hall with Keith her Grandad, to see me present the petition to the Chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council.

‘A massive thank you to Jessica from the community.’
