Two local schools have started an official collaboration, which staff and governors say will bring a wealth of benefits for pupils and the community they serve.
West Bridgford Infant and Junior Schools are now part of a formal partnership overseen by Executive Headteacher James Willis.
The move will result in teachers sharing knowledge, resources, and expertise across the two schools, greater consistency in teaching and learning, a strengthening of leadership, and a progressive and diverse curriculum for children.
It will also improve the transition process from Year 2 to Year 3, when pupils move from the infant school site on Avon Gardens to the junior school on Exchange Road. A number of pupil places are currently available for Year 3 pupils wishing to start in September 2025.
The schools welcome enquiries about these places and have several planned opportunities for parents to look around. If your child is currently in Year 2 and you are interested in a move to the school, please contact the school office – details can be found on the school website: https://wbjs.com.
The collaboration began in September following a period of due diligence by both boards of governors. A joint governing committee will meet each term to review progress and ensure the best decisions are being made to help pupils transition through their primary education.
Both schools will retain independent budgets and governing boards and will be led by their own senior leadership teams, with leaders keen to point out they will remain “community, local authority-maintained schools.”
Executive Headteacher James Willis said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to bring together two wonderful schools and work closely with the families in our community.
“The collaboration has already had such a positive start, and we know that working more closely together will continue to provide many benefits and opportunities for everyone.”
