Vehicles are held in the waiting area and called off on a one-in-one-out basis.
Residents local to the site had complained about traffic gridlock and safety concerns as vehicles queued on Rugby Road to access the site.
The centre is operated by Nottinghamshire County Council and its contractors, not Rushcliffe Borough Council.
West Bridgford’s recycling centre opens at 8 am til 6 pm.
Vehicles are now held at Rushcliffe Arena car park ( if necessary ) by teams of traffic engineers.
This system was introduced in early June when the sites reopened after coronavirus closures.
Teams at the gates to the centre then receive a radio call to expect cars to drive around to the tip. They remove traffic cones allowing the next vehicle to enter the centre.
Social distancing is enforced and a strict one car in, one car out system will be in place.
From Monday 8 June all Nottinghamshire household waste recycling centres reopened to vans, trailers and pickups.
All the sites will be running a reduced service and only the following materials can be taken:
• garden waste,
• waste electrical and electronic equipment
• general waste
Staff will be onsite, but they will be unable to help unload due to social distancing. Residents are reminded that if they have coronavirus symptoms, are self-isolating or at a high risk of contracting the virus they should not travel to the sites.
Recycling centres are open every day of the year except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. The opening times of our recycling centres vary depending on the time of year:
- January and February: 8am to 4pm
- March: 8am to 6pm
- April to September: 8am to 6pm
- October: 8am to 6pm
- November and December: 8am to 4pm
