A hugely popular teacher from West Bridgford who taught primary school children in the Meadows for over 25 years will be the focus of a celebration after she passed away.
Sarah Shipley taught first at Meadows Primary School and then Greenfields Community School.
An early years class teacher, Shipley taught thousands of children while in the Meadows and would regularly take whole school assemblies, lead Christmas productions, and was a member of the senior leadership team.
During her time, she met the King and Sven Goran-Eriksson, and in 2018, Nottingham Post readers identified her as one of their favourite teachers ever.
One former pupil remembered, “She was the most caring, compassionate and hard-working teacher that I have ever met. She was lovely.” A thanksgiving service will be held at 12:30 pm on Wednesday, 13th November, at Aspley Christ Church, and the family have invited all to come and share with them.
Hannah Donato, Shipley’s daughter, says, “Mum meant so much to so many, and it will be great to celebrate her life with those she taught. She loved being part of the Meadows community, and we can’t wait to hear more stories of Miss Shipley.”
In 2013, Sarah retired from teaching and underwent a successful kidney transplant. In her later years, she battled Parkinson’s but still remained an active member of Aspley Christ Church. She is survived by her three children, Mark, Hannah, and Nathan.
