Six gymnasts and two coaches from Notts Gymnastics Academy have been selected to represent their countries at major international competitions this summer.
Four athletes from the Rushcliffe-based academy will compete at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, which take place from 23 July to 2 August.
Hamish Carter will represent Scotland, while Alex Yolshin-Cash, Adam Tobin and Taeja James have been selected for Team England.
Zakaine Fawzi and Evie Ashurst will represent Great Britain at the Junior European Championships in Zagreb, Croatia, from 19 to 23 August.
Two academy coaches have also received international appointments.
Josh Champion, the academy’s head of men’s gymnastics, has been appointed as the Team England men’s coach for the Commonwealth Games.
Jody Kime, head of women’s gymnastics, will serve as the Great Britain junior women’s team coach at the European championships.
Notts Gymnastics Academy said the selections reflected the development of its athletes through programmes ranging from introductory participation classes to performance squads.
Several of the selected gymnasts began training with the academy as young children before progressing to national and international competition.
The academy has also recently expanded its facilities and participation programmes, increasing the number of places available to children and young people across the East Midlands.
It said it remained committed to providing recreational gymnastics opportunities alongside developing athletes for elite competition.
Zakaine Fawzi began in the academy’s recreational programme at the age of five.
Now one of Great Britain’s most experienced junior international gymnasts, he has represented the country 10 times.
He will compete at his second Junior European Championships as a European team champion and European Youth Olympic gold medallist.
Alex Yolshin-Cash joined the academy at the age of eight and has trained there for the past 12 years.
He finished fifth on the pommel horse at his first World Championships in 2025 and will now make his Commonwealth Games debut for England.
Hamish Carter also began in the academy’s participation programme before progressing through its men’s performance pathway.
He later competed as a university athlete in the United States and returned to the Nottinghamshire academy in 2022.
Carter is preparing to compete at his third Commonwealth Games for Scotland, having won a bronze medal at the 2018 Games on Australia’s Gold Coast.
Adam Tobin joined the academy two years ago and has previously won a silver medal at the Junior European Championships.
He also competed at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games and was part of Great Britain’s senior squad for the 2023 European Championships.
The Glasgow event will be his first Commonwealth Games for England.
Evie Ashurst joined Notts Gymnastics Academy four years ago and has represented Great Britain at two junior competitions.
She finished second at the Junior British Championships and secured third place in the all-around competition on her Great Britain debut.
Ashurst travels from Birmingham to train at the academy.
Taeja James began gymnastics at Notts Gymnastics Academy at the age of four.
She later returned to training after a five-year break and was named as a reserve for the 2024 World Championships.
James has previously represented her country at the Commonwealth Games, European Championships and World Championships.
