Central Avenue in West Bridgford is just one week away from hosting a Platinum Jubilee Street Party on Sunday June 5 to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s 70 years on the throne!
In line with the national The Big Jubilee Lunch from 11am to 4pm, picnic benches will line the high street which will be closed to traffic, inviting families, groups and individuals to bring their own picnic or order food or drink from great local cafés and restaurants.
Selected local food and drink venues will be open during the event offering tasty Jubilee packages to purchase on the day and enjoy at the picnic benches on Central Avenue including:
- White Rabbit
- Escabeche
More great local restaurants will be offering special Jubilee menus that can also be enjoyed at the picnic benches throughout the event including:
- Giggling Squid
- Portello Lounge
- Yumacha
- The Black Pearl
- Gilt
Event-goers can also enjoy the event’s food stalls, barbecue, fish and chip stall and bar and an entertainment programme will give the crowds plenty to sing-a-long to and enjoy on the street, adjacent Croquet Lawn or mini stage, including:
- DJ
- Boston Jive Dancers
- The Tuneless Choir
- Tailcoat drummers
- Comedy waiters
- London Guards
- Juicy Titbits -The Gossips! 1950’s housewives’ humour
- Punch and Judy
- Comedy maypole
- Morris dancers
- Vintage market from Hopkinson, West Bridgford
- Interactive crafts such as crown and flag making
Rushcliffe Borough Council’s Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Communities and Climate Change Cllr Abby Brennan said:
“The event promises to be a wonderful chance to celebrate Her Majesty’s 70 years as our sovereign and the incredible way she has led us over such a long period in our history.
“Come on down to join the party next Sunday in one of our great town centres and enjoy food and drink from local businesses or stallholders and an array of entertainment that will reflect some of the memorable moments of the last 70 years and royal heritage!
