West Bridgford’s The Fitness Collective launches 30-day Experience

Two years after opening in January 2020 – The Fitness Collective in West Bridgford is a gym with a difference.

 

Since opening in January 2020 and battling with the Covid-19 pandemic including multiple lockdowns, we have managed to create an amazing community full of like-minded people who have been our biggest support.

 

We have continued to grow and as we enter 2023 we have been able to reflect on our first three years as a small independent business and look towards what the next few years might hold.

Potential expansion and multiple sites are both possible as we grow to our full capacity at our site in West Bridgford.

How It All Began

The fitness industry continues to grow, more people are members of gyms than ever before (around 15% of the population or 10 million people) and we all know exercise is good for us yet obesity levels continue to rise (67% of men and 60% of females in the UK are overweight) and mental health is a rising concern with 1 in 4 people experiencing mental health issues each year.

It seems strange to say but this is why we would consider the fitness industry to be the most successful failure of all time.

There is no other industry that continues to recruit more and more members yet fails to deliver results.  

The Fitness Collective was created by four friends from Nottingham with a desire to create a personal training fitness business that delivered results.

We have spent the past 20 years training together and working in a variety of gyms around the world (mainly the UK and Australia) and knew there was a need for a more personalised service with our members at the centre of the gym, supported by expert coaches providing each member with an individual plan based on their needs.

To deliver this we used the knowledge we already had and visited some of the most successful gyms in the world, visiting many gyms in the UK, Australia and the USA. 

We built the entire model for The Fitness Collective based on our findings to deliver results in the most efficient and effective way. We do this through four core principles:

 

    • Fun/ Social: We know that walking into a gym can be intimidating that’s why we have created a welcoming environment where all you need to do is turn up, enjoy the session your coach has planned for you and even sit down and have a free 200 degrees coffee with us. 
    • Exercise: Strength, Stamina and Flexibility are essential for health and fitness that’s why all of our programmes are structured around these core principles. We understand that many people are unsure of the type of exercises to do, how much to do and how often, we provide guidance on this and monitor your exercise both inside and outside of the gym
    • Nutrition: This is the most confusing element of results; we simplify all of the knowledge you may have heard in the media and work with you to make small changes to your diet for long-term changes. We can all make huge changes to our diet in the short term but they never last!
  • Education: We provide exercise and nutritional seminars to all our members along with 1-1 support for everyone in your areas of need. Recent seminars include Female Health: The Menopause, Fundamentals of Nutrition and The Psychology of Exercise Motivation: Tricks of the Trade for Consistent Exercise Performance

What Makes The Fitness Collective Different?

The Fitness Collective was designed to be different, in an industry built on getting more members through the door and tying them into long-term contracts with three-month get-out clauses (we can’t believe some gyms are still doing this either!) we are different.

We deliver results for our members. We do this by getting to know you and your goals, treating you like an adult and understanding what works for you. 

Many people think that results only refer to weight/fat loss. But results can mean so much more and are different for each individual. For instance, simply enjoying exercise is a common goal we see our members looking to achieve.

Learning a new skill or being more consistent with their exercise are both things we have helped our members with in the past. 

We focus on creating a fun, non-intimidating environment, we educate you on nutrition and exercise and help motivate you to achieve your goals.

Our 30-day experience is designed to allow you to experience what we do, for you to get to know us before you decide if you want to join us long term.

We won’t pressure you into a 12-month contract before letting you in the door, giving you one session to show you the equipment and then waving you goodbye before moving on to the next “victim”, sorry client.

We actually want you to get the results you want long term and we work with you to ensure this happens, you can book in to speak to your coach every week if that is what you need and our exercise sessions are available on the hour every hour from 6 am to 8 pm to ensure there is a session coached by our expert staff at your convenience.

You don’t have to work around the schedule of a personal trainer, we have sessions available that work around you.

We know that time is the most precious resource available to us all and pride ourselves on providing efficient and effective training programmes that get maximal results in minimal time.

We take the confusion out of all the information about exercise and nutrition and provide you with a structure to progress your exercise and eating habits to gain the results you want.

We do this by providing our members with exercise and nutrition seminars, one-to-one goal setting and progress meetings to ensure our members are able to implement our advice and adjust their approach appropriately for their needs.

We look around at large corporate gyms and see people training on their own, headphones in not interacting with anyone and wonder how fitness has come to this.

We have an environment where people talk to each other, help each other and make friends for life.

We even throw in a few socials along the way to really get to know each other.

We encourage you to bring your friends, what could be more enjoyable than training with your mates (and making new ones), imagine if you got to see your 5 best friends every time you went to the gym, it certainly makes it a lot more fun.

Exercise and nutrition are at the core of what we do, we believe that nutrition is simple but by no means is it easy.

It is a fact backed up by endless research that to lead a healthy life we need to complete a combination of training that includes strength, stamina and flexibility along with eating a balanced diet. That’s why our approach at the fitness collective combines all of these elements adapted for each individual member. 

On top of this, what we really provide is an amazing place to train with inspirational trainers and great members that you can be a part of. 

 

What Next For The Fitness Collective?

Our main focus will always be to provide unrivalled service to each and every one of our members, ensure that we continue to create a non-intimidating and friendly environment full of like-minded individuals and deliver personal, efficient and effective training sessions. We have always stood by our decision to cap our membership base in order to achieve these goals and as we grow ever closer to full capacity a second site is something we are considering.

What I wanted was “quality assured” whole body strength training; with a coach able to ensure I was getting the most for my time, whilst ensuring I was exercising properly rather than just throwing weights around! And, this is exactly what The Fitness Collective  provide.

The coaches’ knowledge, encouragement and motivation are what make TFC an amazing place to train. The Fitness Collective is not like any other gym I’ve been to, I leave each session excited to come back and see what I can achieve.

I have been at TFC since it opened in January 2020.

During this time I have lost weight, and gained muscle and I feel so much fitter than I did 3 years ago.  The fact that it’s Small Group PT that TFC delivers means that each coach really gets to know you and how you train. They are always on hand to make sure that you are getting the best from each session which is just something you would lose in a big commercial gym.
