Lidl have updated us on the latest plans for the £60 million development on Wilford Lane.
Frank Gillespie, Development Director at Simons Developments, said:
“Our plans to develop the unused plot of land between the Becket School and Wilford Lane in West Bridgford have now been submitted to Rushcliffe Borough Council. If given the green light, the proposals, which represent a £60 million-pound investment in the town, will deliver a number of major benefits, including the provision of new housing, new jobs and more shopping and leisure options for local people. Affordable housing will also be provided in accordance with the Council’s policy.
“Our consultation exercise last year was a great way for us to gauge how members of the local community feel about the plans. And, as a direct result of feedback received, we have made some changes to what was originally proposed.
“A number of people felt that the residential buildings were too high, for example, so they have all been lowered in height and the number of apartments reduced from 231 to 204. What’s more, the retirement complex now features 63 apartments rather than 75. Some residents suggested that the materials used across the site should be consistent with other buildings in the area. We have taken this on board and can confirm that the proposed development will be in keeping with its surroundings.
“Another key issue raised during consultation was the level of traffic that already exists on Wilford Lane. Whilst we appreciate this concern, our transport assessment shows that the proposals will make an almost insignificant difference to traffic flow. The increase in traffic, for example, at the AM peak on the Wilford Lane/Becket Way junction will only be around 3%. We are also liaising with the local highway authority on ways to improve the synchronisation of traffic lights and tram signals in the area.
“We will continue to work with local residents, stakeholders, community groups and the Becket School in order to address issues and will keep everyone updated as and when we have more information to share.”
