On Bank Holiday Monday, 5th May, from 10.30 am to 6.00 pm, we’re throwing open our gates for a special Open Day at our club on Main Street, Willoughby on the Wolds.
Whether you fancy trying your hand at bowls or just soaking up the atmosphere, everyone’s welcome. No experience is needed – just bring yourself, some flat-soled shoes, and a smile!
Since our founding in 1925, Willoughby Bowls Club has grown from a handful of determined players levelling out a field to a thriving, welcoming club with a proud history. While much has changed over the years, the spirit of community and love for the game remains at the heart of everything we do.
As part of the celebrations, visitors can enjoy:
A historical photo display showcasing snapshots of our 100-year journey,
Refreshments,
A unique “100 Ends for 100 Years” competition – a fun, rolling challenge where anyone can jump in and bowl a few ends alongside members.
We’re not just celebrating the past – we’re building for the next century too. With plans for a new clubhouse and a focus on encouraging younger players, the future looks bright for Willoughby Bowls Club. There’s never been a better time to get involved, whether you’re after some gentle exercise, competitive play, or just a great new social circle.
Bowls is a fantastic sport for all ages and abilities. On the day, you can try it out for free with support from our friendly members and resident coach. It’s relaxed, informal, and all about having fun – no need to book, just turn up!
Bring family, bring friends, and come help us celebrate 100 years of bowls in Willoughby. There’s plenty happening throughout the day, and you might just discover a new passion along the way.
