Woman arrested after drugs smuggled into Nottinghamshire prison

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of smuggling drugs into a prison.

Police were called to HMP Lowdham Grange, at Lowdham, shortly before 7 am on Wednesday (16 August) after a report of a polysubstance had been found on a person entering the premises.

A 21-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of conveying prohibited articles into a prison. She has been granted police bail and investigations into the incident remain ongoing.

PC Denise Fenton, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Drugs have no place in prisons and can fuel a multitude of other problems, including debt, violence and control.

“We are very grateful to the prison authorities for their diligence and ongoing efforts to work alongside us to reduce this type of criminality.

“Our message is clear – activity like this will not be tolerated and anyone attempting to bring drugs or other items into prison will be actively pursued.

“Hopefully this arrest will act as a deterrent to anyone thinking of smuggling drugs into our prisons.”
