Woman arrested after man beaten in the street in unprovoked attack

A woman has been arrested after a man suffered significant facial injuries after being attacked in the street.

The victim was on his way to a shop along Courtenay Gardens, St Ann’s, when he was subjected to what appeared to be an unprovoked attack at around 9.20pm on Wednesday.

He has been left with a black eye and scratches to his face after being hit with a bottle and kicked whilst he lay on the ground.

A passer-by came to the man’s aid and contacted Nottinghamshire Police. A woman was taken into custody on suspicion of robbery and assault a short time later.

Neighbourhood Inspector Karl Thomas said: “This was a despicable act of violence where a man, who was innocently walking to the shop, has been randomly set upon.

“We’re grateful to residents who intervened and provided us with information and that a woman was quickly arrested in relation to this crime.

“We won’t tolerate this barbaric behaviour and we are working with the victim to ensure he has access to necessary support going forward.”
