Woman escapes her Nottingham flat after ‘man tries to strangle her’ in domestic incident

A terrified woman hid in a bush as she ran from a man who tried to strangle her during a domestic assault.

The 40-year-old victim called 999 after fleeing a flat in Bentinck Road in Radford at around 11.45pm on Monday night (May 17).

She told officers a man repeatedly attempted to prevent her leaving the flat by grabbing her and pulling her back.

It is alleged the man tried to strangle the woman and that he also threatened her with a knife.

She eventually managed to escape and found a bush to hide in at a nearby car park.

Officers quickly responded and arrested a 35-year-old man on suspicion of assault and possession of a bladed article. He is due to be questioned by officers today (May 18).

Detective Sergeant Nicole Milner, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was a frightening incident for the victim who was extremely fearful for her life.

“Officers did a great job to quickly attend and make an arrest in connection with this incident.

“We are now satisfied this was an isolated incident and there is no wider threat to the local community.

“Nottinghamshire Police takes knife crime very seriously and will always thoroughly investigate reports with a view to taking appropriate action against those found to have committed such offences.”
