A Nottingham woman has been given a suspended prison sentence and banned from a city centre shop after repeatedly stealing chocolate from the same retailer.
Charlotte Jones, 35, of Cheltenham Street, Nottingham, pleaded guilty to theft offences and was sentenced at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on 3 January. She was given an 18-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, and ordered to complete 10 rehabilitation activity requirement days. Magistrates also ordered her to pay £152 in compensation.
The court heard that Jones stole £90 worth of chocolate from Hotel Chocolat on Albert Street on 8 December 2025. She returned to the shop on 23 December and took a further £62 worth of goods. On 2 January, she stole chocolate valued at £60 without attempting to pay.
In total, Jones has stolen £851 worth of chocolate in seven separate thefts from the same store since December 2024.
Magistrates also granted Nottinghamshire Police a criminal behaviour order banning Jones from entering the Albert Street Hotel Chocolat store. The order was granted on 17 January and will remain in place for two years.
Criminal behaviour orders can prohibit individuals from entering specified locations or require them to comply with rehabilitation measures. Breaching an order is a criminal offence and can result in further court action, including imprisonment.
A Nottinghamshire Police spokesperson said the order was sought to prevent further offending and protect local businesses.
