Woman stabbed in broad daylight in Nottingham city centre

Members of the public intervened in the incident and along with the victim, confronted the alleged offenders, who fled the scene in a car.

Two men have been arrested after a woman was stabbed in Nottingham city centre yesterday.

Nottinghamshire Police was called to Hanley Street at around 10.40 am after two men were reported to have attempted to force a woman into a car after stabbing her in the abdomen.

Members of the public intervened in the incident and along with the victim, confronted the alleged offenders, who fled the scene in a car.

Police acted quickly to investigate the circumstances of the incident and subsequently, a vehicle was intercepted in Broxtowe Avenue. Two men then left the vehicle on foot and a brief foot chase followed.

The men, aged 26 and 28 were arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and attempted kidnap in connection with the incident. They remain in police custody for questioning.

The victim received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries in hospital.

Detective Inspector Craig Hall, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This is an extremely serious report and we are working hard to establish the circumstances of what happened.

“Whilst we have made two arrests, I’d encourage anyone with any information about the incident to contact Nottinghamshire Police as soon as possible.

“Thankfully, it would appear that the victim’s injuries that are not life-threatening, however, the consequences of this incident will be long-lasting for the victim and we will be ensuring that she is supported appropriately throughout the investigation and beyond.

“I would like to thank the brave members of the public who put themselves at risk to help the victim. These acts of bravery have possibly saved someone’s life and the selfless and heroic actions of these people should serve as an inspiration to us all.”
