Police in Clifton are investigating a serious assault on two members of the public after they challenged a suspected shoplifter.
They have now released images of two men we wish to trace who could help us further our investigation.
The incident happened on Thursday, 31 July, just before 1pm at the Iceland supermarket on Southchurch Drive in Clifton.
A man was seen putting items into his backpack by a female customer. When she challenged his behaviour, he put his hands around her neck and strangled her.
Police said:
‘A female member of staff intervened, and he assaulted her as well, threatening to ‘kill her’ if she got in his way.
‘He then left the store with another man, having stolen £70 worth of laundry products.
‘We have carried out a number of lines of enquiry to try to locate him.
‘We have released images of two men who could help us further our enquiries and are calling on the public’s help to identify them.
Sergeant Scott Loughran, who is investigating the incident, said: “This was an appalling attack on two female members of the public who challenged a man stealing from the store.
“This behaviour is completely unacceptable, and we are determined to ensure they are caught and put before the courts.
“We are calling on the public to help us identify two individuals who could help us with our investigation.
