Building work has started at Nottingham City Hospital to create a new theatre block and a new ward which will help to address the waiting list backlog.
Built by Darwin Group Ltd the theatre block will have two floors, 10-beds, additional support accommodation for medical staff and extra storage.
The building for the new ward will be a three-storey, 20-bed ward block, with 12 en-suite facilities. The ward will also have additional staff changing areas and office space.
Andrew Chatten, Director of Estates and Facilities at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “We are delighted to be working with Darwin Group on the modular ward and theatres at our City Hospital site.
“Because we can assemble the buildings in situ, this is a really efficient way for us to quickly increase our capacity at the hospital with minimal disruption.
“The new buildings will not only help us address our waiting list backlog, but also allow us to meet future demand on our services. They will also provide a better experience for our patients and for our staff.”
Charles Pierce, Managing Director of Darwin Group, said: “As specialists in healthcare projects, we are thrilled to be working on this dual project with Nottingham University Hospitals to provide a high-quality space in both ward and theatre blocks at the hospital.
“We will work closely with the hospital’s clinical team throughout the build to ensure expectations are met, delivering the project in a safe and timely manner.”
Work will begin on both projects in January 2022, with the handover date scheduled for June 2022.
