As part of ongoing A52 Nottingham Junctions improvement scheme, work will start at Stragglethorpe Road junction on 4 April 2022.
How will the upgrade work impact motorists and residents?
To minimise disruption for motorists, residents and businesses, teams will work intermittently over 6 weeks until mid-May 2022.
Work is at night, when traffic flows are at their lowest, between 8pm and 6am.
The A52 will remain open while we deliver the improvements and traffic management, which is needed to help keep our workforce safe, will be set up every evening and removed every morning.
What type of work will be carried out?
The work involves changing roadside signage and traffic light signal heads. We’ll also upgrade and relocate the existing average speed cameras, providing better technology and improved speed enforcement.
New signal timing on the traffic lights, which will improve safety and traffic flows within the area, won’t be implemented until our junction improvement work at Gamston roundabout has been completed (currently expected – February 2023).
When will the U-turn movement be banned at Stragglethorpe Road junction?
The U-turn ban at Stragglethorpe, which was approved last year, will come into force on 11 April 2022 once the roadside signage is erected. This ban prevents vehicles travelling on the A52 east (towards Radcliffe on Trent and Bingham) from making a U-turn at Stragglethorpe junction to travel west towards Nottingham.
Banning this U-turn movement will improve the flow of traffic by allowing motorists to turn right from the A52 eastbound carriageway into Stragglethorpe Road, while traffic turns left out of Stragglethorpe Road onto the A52 westbound carriageway (towards Nottingham).
Drivers will still be able to make a U-turn less than half a mile away, using the new U-turn facility at Nottingham Road (RSPCA) junction.
