Work has started on site to create a new Sainsbury’s Local convenience store in Edwalton.
Developer Charterpoint is delivering the new store and has appointed Derby-based Davlyn Construction to build the retail unit.
Sainsbury’s will operate the store, which is part of a plot of land on the corner of Rose Way and Melton Road.
Charterpoint masterminded development of the whole site, which also includes a retirement apartment scheme being built by Vistry Group for not-for-profit housing provider Anchor, who will operate the apartments.

CEO of Charterpoint, Adrian Goose commented: “We’re delighted to see construction now underway for this Sainsbury’s Local. Well known for their high-quality food retail offer and we’re proud to have Sainsbury’s as part of our Edwalton development.
“Residents can now look forward to welcoming a modern neighbourhood store that will add real value to the local area.”
Rushcliffe Borough Council Edwalton ward Councillor Hetvi Parekh added: “The new Sainsbury’s in Edwalton is a welcome addition to our community, improving access to affordable groceries while creating local jobs. It will make everyday shopping more convenient for residents and support the local economy, and we look forward to the positive impact it will bring.”
The development is being funded by The Drummond Trust, which is the second funding collaboration with Charterpoint following the success last year of its neighbourhood centre development at the award winning New Lubbesthorpe.
Martin Ward, Trustee of the Drummond Trust added: “It is excellent to be working with Charterpoint again and to see the progress being made at this local centre. The addition of a high-quality convenience store like Sainsbury’s adds another positive dimension to the scheme, which will significantly benefit the local community.”
The 4,000 sq ft Sainsbury’s Local store will offer fresh bread, cakes, fruit and vegetables, meat, and fish, and will also include an in-store Click & Collect service for Argos, Habitat and Tu Clothing. The store is expected to open before the end of the year.
