Zombie knife and drugs seized from Nottinghamshire flat

A good spot by a Newark officer out on patrol led to a zombie knife and drug wraps being found in a flat.

PC Richard Bombroffe was walking along Yorke Drive around 9.50pm on Wednesday (30 July) when he noticed something untoward.

Believing criminal activity could be taking place, the neighbourhood officer decided to investigate and so knocked on a property’s door.

His suspicions were then intensified still further when someone answered the front door before immediately trying to slam it shut.

This suspicious behaviour prompted PC Bombroffe – who had been joined by other officers at this point – to advise that the property be searched.

These searches would later result in a large zombie-style knife being found and seized from within the flat in Yorke Drive.

Wraps of suspected crack cocaine, as well as weighing scales, were also recovered from inside the same property.

Based on this, three teenage suspects located within the address were all detained at the scene.

The three boys, aged 16, 17 and 17, were arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon in a private place and possessing with intent to supply Class A drugs.

Neighbourhood Sergeant Kate Taylor, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“These seizures and the arrests that followed are a prime example of exactly why we conduct the patrols in the community we do as a neighbourhood policing team.

“As a direct result of PC Bombroffe’s alertness and him deciding to act when something aroused his suspicions, we were able to seize a dangerous weapon and Class A drugs too.

“There is no excuse for anyone to own or store a so-called zombie-style knife, even in a private place like their home.

“Neither this – or anyone thinking of selling drugs in our community – will ever be tolerated by our neighbourhood team here in Newark.”
