Mansfield District Council has welcomed a £1 million grant from the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA), supporting the transformational £16.5 million White Hart Street Development.
The funding will enable vital remediation and preparation work on long-derelict brownfield land in the town centre.
The development aims to deliver approximately 43 high-quality, affordable homes, including family properties and apartments, while revitalising historic buildings and reconnecting the area with the wider town centre. This responds directly to local housing needs and aligns with the Council’s priorities around safe, warm homes, a vibrant town centre, and environmentally responsible development. The new council homes will offer a mix of property types, including family houses and apartments.

Phase one of the scheme will begin once contracts are agreed and is expected to be completed by 2028.
The White Hart Street Development will transform a brownfield site that has stood underused for more than a decade. The EMCCA grant will support clearance, remediation and early-phase enabling works, unlocking the land for regeneration and the construction of new homes.

Sustainability is a core principle of the project, with environmentally friendly design, low-carbon materials and green technologies supporting the Council’s ambition to be net zero by 2040.
The Council continues to prioritise transparency, inclusivity and community involvement. Engagement with residents and stakeholders will remain central throughout the development process, ensuring feedback directly shapes the final plans. The scheme will also deliver local job opportunities, support apprenticeships and strengthen local supply chains.

Mayor Andy Abrahams, Mansfield District Council, said:
“This funding from Mayor Claire is a major milestone in unlocking the potential of a site that has stood empty for far too long. The White Hart Street Development will deliver much-needed, high-quality, sustainable homes while supporting our wider vision for a thriving and inclusive town centre. This investment helps us lay the foundations, literally and figuratively, for a prosperous future shaped by the people of Mansfield.”

Mayor Claire Ward, East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA), said:
“We are delighted to provide £1 million through the Brownfield Housing Fund to support Mansfield’s White Hart Street Development. This is exactly the kind of regeneration our region needs, turning neglected land into energy-efficient homes and creating vibrant places where communities can grow. Working in partnership with Mansfield District Council ensures we deliver real benefits to local people now and for generations to come.”
The development will reflect Mansfield’s rich architectural and social heritage, reintroducing historic pedestrian routes, creating new public spaces and incorporating refurbished heritage buildings for community and commercial use.
Central to the scheme is a new community hub and landscaped areas designed to encourage social connection, wellbeing and pride of place.
