East Midlands Airport is preparing to welcome almost 150,000 passengers over the Easter break, with travellers heading to around 70 destinations across Europe and North Africa.
The airport is expecting its busiest day on Thursday 2 April, when around 7,400 passengers are due to pass through the terminal.
A total of 42 departures are scheduled that day, serving destinations including Malaga, Rhodes, Alicante, Faro, Palma, Lanzarote, Barcelona, Sharm el-Sheikh, Rome, Ibiza, Valencia, Krakow and Dublin.
The Easter period, which runs from 30 March to 10 April, marks the start of the airport’s summer season and is typically the first peak travel period of the year.
Passengers travelling over the holidays will also see a number of recently introduced upgrades across the terminal. A new restaurant, Terracotta Italian Kitchen, is due to open on 31 March, while a redesigned WHSmith store in the departure lounge is set to open on 2 April, offering a wider range of travel essentials, food and retail items.
Facilities for families have been expanded with the addition of a new Little Flyers play area, featuring a themed role-play plane and interactive wall activities.

Additional changes include the introduction of a quiet room and sensory pod designed to support passengers with anxiety and neurodivergent conditions, alongside a refurbished security hall equipped with new scanners intended to speed up the screening process, with average wait times expected to remain under 15 minutes.
Improvements have also been made to the arrivals experience, including updates to the immigration hall and faster self-service key collection for Meet and Greet parking customers, as well as upgraded toilet facilities throughout the terminal.
Managing Director Steve Griffiths said the Easter holidays mark the beginning of the airport’s busiest period, adding that ongoing investment is focused on improving the overall passenger experience and maintaining the airport’s position as a key regional travel hub.
