£300,000 cannabis factory discovered in a Nottingham property

A garden-hopping suspect was tracked down and arrested after officers uncovered a substantial cannabis grow.

Officers attended an address in Southfield Road, Aspley, at 3pm on Sunday (28 July) and it was evident there was a grow inside.

While inquiries were being carried out, a man fled the property and jumped multiple fences in a bid to evade capture.

Police dog and drone resources were quickly requested and a short time later a 25-year-old man was tracked down and caught hiding in a nearby outbuilding.

He was duly arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis.

Officers found a total of 284 plants when they searched the address the suspect had fled from. The electricity to the property had also been bypassed.

City west neighbourhood officer PC Sian Calnan said: “Thanks to some good old-fashioned police teamwork we quickly managed to track down and detain a suspect in connection with this cannabis grow.

“As a neighbourhood team we are continuing to work hard to root out drug offenders who are blighting our communities.

“We would also encourage anyone who has suspicions that a cannabis factory is being set up on their street to contact us as soon as possible on 101 so that we can take appropriate action.”
