£600,000 Central Walk improvement works to begin in Hucknall

Work to improve and modernise Central Walk in Hucknall is due to begin next week, starting with the removal of the existing canopy.
The canopy will be taken down during overnight hours in an effort to minimise disruption to businesses and shoppers using the area. Ahead of the work, pigeon nests were humanely removed and measures put in place to discourage further nesting, ensuring that no birds will be disturbed during the removal process.

Following public consultation, the plans for Central Walk include removing the ageing arcade canopy, installing additional street and ambient lighting, and introducing planters with integrated seating and bins. Proposals also include standardising shopfronts and adding street art.

The scheme is intended to improve perceptions of safety, reduce anti-social behaviour, and promote Hucknall’s history through public art, while creating a more accessible and welcoming town centre environment aimed at attracting more visitors and supporting local businesses.

The improvements are being funded through a £600,000 investment, partly drawn from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
