72% in favour of Central Avenue pedestrianisation as transport survey results in

The Central West Bridgford Community Association announce early results of their Active Travel Survey. See results.

Organisers said:

‘A huge thank you to the 706 people who responded to Central West Bridgford Community Association’s survey on ‘Active Travel in West Bridgford’ which was completed at the end of September 2020!

‘This is an amazing response, and is another dramatic illustration of the community spirit that exists in our neighbourhood.

‘Lifestyle and economic changes, brought on by Covid-19 measures, had prompted renewed public discussion about proposed changes to the use of Central Avenue in West Bridgford and the long-running subject of managing traffic in residential streets, especially on roads that tend to be rat-runs.

‘We invited our community to take this discussion to a questionnaire we posted on Survey Monkey, so that we could collect it in a more systematic way and feedback the results.

‘In answering the question “Do you think Central Avenue should be pedestrianised, at least whilst physical distancing measures are in operation?” (rounding down to the nearest whole number):

72% said YES
16% said NO
10% chose ‘Part pedestrianisation’

To the question of whether ‘Low traffic neighbourhoods should be promoted’, 69% said ‘yes’, while 31% were opposed.

‘So many respondents provided more detailed views on the survey questions, that these comments must be further analysed separately. We will provide them as soon as possible, but thought it was important to share the headlines now.’
