Rushcliffe MP Ruth Edwards will write to the education secretary asking him if there is any financial help available for a West Bridgford school severely hit by flooding.
Ruth toured Rushcliffe School with the principal Damian Painton on Friday to see first-hand the damage – estimated at £500,000.
Initially, the school, in Boundary Road, lost 12 classrooms due to the flood water running from the nearby Bovis Sharphill Estate housing development, but six are now back up and running.
Bovis has put in a temporary measure to store the water but there are concerns the school will be affected again, if those measures fail.
“I would like to pay tribute to the principal, his staff, the pupils and parents for so tenaciously coping with this extensive flooding and getting on with lessons and school life in general,” said Ruth.
“There is an issue here around who owns the field between the Bovis estate and the school and I will be writing to the developer and the landowner, when identified, to explore what can be done to stop the flooding affecting the school again, especially as this is the second time it has happened.
“In addition, I will contact the secretary of state, Gavin Williamson, asking him if there is any funding available to support public sector organisations, such as schools, who have been effected by the recent floods.”
